What To Do If Your Sensors Are Off

My name is Everett Mason and last year I decided to have a large garage constructed so I wouldn't have to park my vehicles outside. When it was time to choose the garage doors for the building, I did a lot of research first because I didn't know anything about garage doors. Through my research, I learned about the different kinds that are available and I also viewed photos of the various styles that are made. I wanted garage doors that were durable and low maintenance, but also attractive. I am very pleased with my garage doors and I'm glad that I took the time to research them first. What To Do If Your Sensors Are Off

The sensors in your garage help prevent your garage door from closing on a person or an object in the way. If your sensors are off, however, your garage door may end up closing on something it shouldn't, or someone could get injured. These sensors may also cause your garage door to not open or close correctly. Read on for what you can do if your sensors are off and are causing you a problem.

Clean The Sensors

Clean the sensors with a microfiber cloth to avoid scratching the sensor lenses as you clean them. Use warm water and a mild detergent to wash these sensors, which can build up with dirt and dust from your garage. Be sure to clean these sensors often to prevent a problem with your garage door.

Adjust The Sensors

Make an adjustment to the sensors as needed if they are not pointed in the correct position. The sensors should be pointed towards the door to help signal to the garage door opener that there is something in the way and it cannot close. If the sensors are pointed to the floor, you may not be able to close your garage door. If they are pointed towards the garage itself, it may pick up on anything blocking the sensor and may not allow the door to open or close. Be sure they are pointed towards the garage door and are both facing one another on each side of the door.

Keep The Sensors Unblocked

It can be easy to forget these sensors are in place and you may end up leaving something in the way of these sensors. You shouldn't store anything in front of these sensors, or anywhere near your garage door, as you could end up causing problems with the opening or closing of your door. If your door closes on something because the sensors are not working properly, you could end up throwing your door off its rollers and need to have your door repaired.

If you have sensors on your garage door that assist in closing and opening, you need to be sure these sensors are working properly. If you have an issue with your garage door, you could end up needing to have it repaired by a professional repairman. Call a garage door repair service for help with your door to be sure you can open and close it as needed.
